Printing and Taking Care of Images

If you have a passion for images, you could probably use some tips on taking care of them, especially if you print a lot of them. If you use inkjet printers, color laser printers, dye sub, or some other technology, you should know something about handling and taking care of your prints.

No matter what technology you rely on, here are some things you should keep in mind when either handling prints or making prints.

2 Tips For Storing Printed Images

Easy isn’t always good when it comes to storing pictures. You don’t want to store your pictures in the attic or the basement, as these are often damp and the temperature will tend to fluctuate a great deal. Store your images in a cool dry place if you want to them to last.

Light causes images to fade. Be careful not to hang your pictures in direct sunlight. If you do, consider using anti-UV glass. Don’t touch the surface of the print itself, either.

2 Tips For Printing With Photo Paper

If you are printing from a computer, be sure to use paper that is recommended by the manufacturer of the printer. Sometimes, some aspect of the paper can hurt print quality, even though there is nothing wrong with the paper per se. For example, if ink balls up on the paper and makes your images to look spotty, use different paper or adjust the printer speed. Even though it may cost more, you’ll get better results when you use paper recommended by the manufacturer of the printer

You must let your prints dry for at least 1 hour before you try to stack them on top of each other. If you will put them under glass or in photo album pages, give them 24 hours to dry first.

Some Tips For Printing With Glossy Photo Paper

With glossy paper, the colors look more vibrant and the details look slightly sharper than matt paper. It’s not perfect though. It can cause glare with intense light sources, however. Be aware that glossy photo paper is more likely to attract and show dust and fingerprints and plan accordingly.

Some Tips For Printing With Matt Photo Paper

Matte prints may not be as sexy, but they do not reflect light as much and are easier to view. However, be aware that they will give the appearance of less detail and less vibrant colors.
